New originals and limited editions by Kate Banazi

Kate Banazi original works on paper

New this month is a consignment of unique original works on paper by Kate Banazi alongside new collections of limited edition prints.

Kate has been solidly printing throughout January and February 2018 to create this large body of work that we are delighted to be representing.

These works are derived from life drawings. Kate says of her work : "I started from a series of life drawings that I did when I had been ill, rediscovering a love of drawing and mark making. From there I abstracted the shapes and refined the movement to simpler linear motifs constructed from pencil and ink through to a computer output. I am interested in our relationships with AI and everyday mundane interactions with computers which only a decade ago would have seemed fantastical'

Kate then translates her work from life drawing to computer in order to abstract the forms and then on to silkscreen and prints. All of the works on paper are printed by hand with multiple layers of inks built up, creating overlays and texture.

Each silkscreen print is handmade and unique. Subtle variances are to be expected within the edition with texture from the silkscreen which is inherent and embraced, within my practice.

View all of the available works at the forthcoming Affordable Art Fair Battersea on 8 - 11 March 2018. For further details and free ticket information please contact us

Original Artwork by Alexandra Gallagher

Original Artwork by Alexandra Gallagher

We are delighted to be showing for the first time a diptych of original work by Alexandra Gallagher.

alexandra Gallagher at Gas Gallery

Two one-off original artworks by Alexandra Gallagher showing for the first time at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea in March 2018.

Originated as a diptych to face one another these pieces are about being blinded by love, how we don’t always see the truth of what is in front of us and we don’t always listen to our intuition in situations where maybe we should. Like the bad relationship where you know your partner is being untrue but you kid yourself “but I love them…”

Both pieces are unique and presented as acrylic dibond.

New original Anna Marrow works

Anna Marrow Original Artwork
We are delighted to present a series of 8 original artworks by Anna Marrow on Japanese plywood, inspired by a recent trip to New York City. They include some iconic bits of New York architecture, including The New Yorker building, which Anna says 'I loved from every angle and took a million pictures of'. The Empire State building, such a beautiful, powerful presence at the end of the towering streets, and, The Standard hotel, an iconic bit of modernist architecture, a building that looks like it is dancing on points. Anna stayed in Brooklyn and also fell in love with the fire escapes and dark brickwork of the lower Brooklyn buildings.

Anna says 'I combined these recognisable exteriors with characters from two of my favourite New York musicals; West Side Story and On the town, hoping to create some intriguing and unusual narratives. Some with a hint of romance, others with a sense of adventure. I love the innocence and escapism of these films and think they both capture that sense of excitement and endless possibility that you get from a trip to NYC.'

All works are framed in a white tray-frame without glass.

Brand New Delphine Lebourgeois Prints

Delphine Lebourgeois Prints Army II at Gas Gallery LondonWe are pleased to start 2018 with presenting two new prints by Delphine Lebourgeois which are currently available to buy exclusively from Gas Gallery.

Entitled Army II and Army III, these prints follow on from Delphine's earlier piece Army, from 2011.

The series is focused on the female fight for personal creativity, space and recognition of our skills whilst giving a nod to the fact that humour can carry us a long way in the fight.

Army II & Army III depicts a force of women to be reckoned with, intermingled with recognisable characters from childhood stories and modern fables. Delphine suggests that although the image at first glance may seem strident and perhaps aggressive, there is a softness of touch we should not overlook. Although women are still fighting for equality, Army II & Army III  can be interpreted that we are all in this together and still want and need to have a bit of fun along the way, and most importantly to not be fighting one another.

New Artist: David Wightman

David Wightman prints at Gas Gallery London

You never know who or what is around the corner - and quite literally that was the case on Friday afternoon. Whilst putting work together for our forthcoming Art Trail on 2 December, David Wightman walked in the door and got chatting about some of our Artists, including Anna Marrow, Delphine Lebourgeois and Natalie Ryde who he knows from showing together at The Other Art Fair recently.

As luck would happen, David lives locally in East Dulwich and so our chance encounter has now led to us stocking his print both online and at our print showcase at Hawkins framing shop on Lordship Lane, East Dulwich SE22. Map

So, watch this space for further news of David's. His prints will be available to view later this week but you can see all available prints on our website here.

Opening today is a new show of prints and original paintings by Artist and Printmaker Martin Grover whose work has been gaining great popularity in recent years, particularly in South London where much of his work is often referred to.

A former student of the Royal Academy, Martin has consistently produced intriguing and beguiling work. A playful narrative thread runs through his work, at one moment a little dark and woebegone and the next humorous and whimsical but always alluring.

Working from life, sketches, memory and photographs Martin reconstructs ephemeral scenes from the passing world. Childhood recollections, minor street incidents, slightly surreal radio traffic bulletins, brief news items, poems, short stories, Brockwell Park landscapes, the enigmatic allure of sheds and shelters are all recalled and captured with clarity and wit. At other times in a more trompe l’oeil (trick of the eye) style he produces very flat still lives of old records in their tattered sleeves and un-coordinated second hand shirt and tie sets.
